Ubuntu is considered as the easiest Linux distro all the time. But it's not the most user-friendly ones. Well, it's really difficult to choose between Ubuntu and OpenSUSE as both of them are great. But yes, experts say OpenSUSE is more useful and helpful in comparison to Ubuntu. Let's find out why so with 10 main reasons.

1. Installation:

Ubuntu is an undisputed champion when it comes to installation as there is no complication. It's just a next-next-next job for Ubuntu installation. Ubuntu can be difficult only if you opt for an unknown settings option or if your installation disk gets corrupted. On the other hand, if we are to talk about one of the most sophisticated installer in Linux systems, it's of OpenSUSE, called YaST. Well if you are not very much into taking risks, then OpenSUSE installation may pose difficulties for you. If you are an expert in Linux or is willing to learn new things, then OpenSUSE is for you.

So the basic fact is, Ubuntu is a very traditional option while OpenSUSE means a lot more.

2. Desktop Environments:

GNOME is the desktop environment for Ubuntu users and it is the default one, anyhow. There is a KDE option too but when it's KDE, it's only KDE. But in OpenSUSE, you have your own choice. In OpenSUSE, you're offered the most awesome interface in the world to search and install all the great software available including multiple database servers, web servers, development environments, desktop Environments, text editors, video and audio editors, 3D modelers, DTP tools and so on. So when it comes to desktop environment, the winner is definitely OpenSUSE.

3. KDE – the familiar option:

We cannot the beat the fact that Windows is still the most used operating system in the world. Ubuntu is not a good option, in these terms, for the Linux community, because of its Mac OS X's copied looks and so on. But when KDE is used on OpenSUSE, it looks easier and more friendly. OpenSUSE is better than Ubuntu as it uses KDE by default.

4. KDE works better with OpenSUSE:

Well, computer newbies don't usually opt for Linux and it's very much understood. So Linux users are usually not required to be trained on how to open files, folders and applications and how to close them. OpenSUSE makes it easier for Windows users to work in the level of a Control Panel through YaST control center. KDE is not just a desktop environment but also a software collection which has lots of cool applications like Ktorrent, Konqueror, Dolphin, Kget, Kate, Kontact and more. OpenSUSE integrates better with KDE and that's why OpenSUSE is a better option to use than Ubuntu.

5. Installing new software is easy in OpenSUSE:

Installing a new software is easier in OpenSUSE than Ubuntu, due to KDE once again. In OpenSUSE, you just need to launch YaST, search for software, find it, select them for installation and hit install. OpenSUSE''s one-click install stands out as a much easier option to Ubuntu's installation using PPA. While in Ubuntu you cannot see the amount of data it is downloading, OpenSUSE shows that.

6. OpenSUSE better option for developers:

OpenSUSE DVD comes with tools full of IDEs and server software which makes sure that you can install all the software you want to have. The DVD also offers few other things like Debuggers, their GUIs, Version Control System and their UIs etc. So OpenSUSE is a better option than Ubuntu, nevertheless.

7. OpenSUSE lives for longer time:

OpenSUSE crashes lesser than Ubuntu and it's a better option if your want to install and run various software on your system.

8. No bloatware on OpenSUSE:

OpenSUSE is slow, at least most people think so. But with OpenSUSE latest version, it's not at all true. There are systemd, DB servers, web server, FTP server – so how come OpenSUSE can perform slow? At least there is no bloatware on OpenSUSE but as per performance level, Ubuntu is definitely neck-to-neck with this distro.

9. Hardware Support:

Both these distros support best hardware possible. But there is a trouble with Ubuntu as it doesn't provide advanced problem detection tools but OpenSUSE brings in all of them with utter perfection.

10. OpenSUSE best for multimedia:

You may be looking for your own set up and if you are multimedia guy then OpenSUSE is the best option for you with all the handy tools and the SuSE studio.
